  1. A building drain that conveys both sewage and storm water or other drainage (WHO 2006).
  2. A building drain which carries storm water, rainwater, waste water and sewerage (World Plumbing Council Working Group 2008).

Explanation

A combined building drain is a building drainage system which must be graded and sized to carry its estimated peak hydraulic storm loads. It uses the venting requirements normally associated with a below ground sewerage drainage system (World Plumbing Council Working Group 2008).

Example

Combined building drains are not permitted in many jurisdictions. Normally storm water and sewerage is not permitted to be mixed and transported in the same drainage system. Some sewers are combined sanitary and storm sewers. These are not desirable due to overflow during storm events (World Plumbing Council Working Group 2008).
